Busy Bee News

“Buzz”-worthy Moment: Our “Math Problem Worth Solving” today in Math Rotations:

Miss Young has 18 students sitting in a circle. They are evenly spaced and sitting in order from 1 to 18. Which student is sitting directly across from student 1? How about across from student 2? Is there an equation that you can create to continue?

Take a moment to solve this with your 3rd grader! It was so fun listening to their conversations…their brains were stretched!!

Social-Emotional Learning: Thanks-giving

Being GRATEFUL and GIVING (Thanks-Giving)

Our Class Giving Project

We have been learning about having an “Attitude of Gratitude”. This week, we made “Thankful Leaves” after reading the two books on gratitude and giving (links below and on our Google Classroom).

Both 3rd Grade Classes are collecting non-perishable items from now until November 19th. We will donate the items to a local food bank for families in need. I anticipate this will spark lots of conversations in class, too!

Coming Up in November…

11/11 Veteran’s Day (No School!)

11/23 Charlie Brown Thanksgiving on Campus

Hello San Tan Charter Recker Campus Families,

Occurring the day before Thanksgiving, Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is a tradition at San Tan Charter! Dr. and Mrs. Sippel began this tradition in the first Montessori Preschool class with bean soup. The tradition continues for families by bringing their own lunch and eating it picnic style outside as a community and bringing desserts to share.

Date

November 23rd

Timing

We will open the front doors starting at 10:30. Charlie Brown Thanksgiving typically runs for around an hour and a half.

Picking Up Your Student

  • Guests are welcome to enter the building starting at 10:30 am. At this point, there is no need to sign in as a visitor.
  • All students will need to be checked out from the classroom that day as opposed to doing the Drive Lane Routine. Therefore, there will be NO DRIVELANE on this day.
  • There will be NO AFTERCARE on this day.
  • Guests will go to their student’s classroom and they may enter the classroom after the doors open.
  • Please let your classroom teacher know you are taking your student before you leave.

Parking

The entire parking lot will be free for families to utilize. We do ask that if the parking lot is full, please either park in the neighborhood or across the street at the church. Please be cognizant of the signage within Morrison Ranch about where to park as there is a lot of “tow zones” in the neighborhood.

What to Expect

Everyone comes to eat a picnic lunch together as a community. We will have thankful art from the classes for you to enjoy viewing and all are welcome to come and have a good time. We will have a few tables and chairs set up but please bring any blankets, beach chairs in case we run out of provided seating space.

Clean Up

Any helping hand you could lend us in the cleanup process would be so helpful. You will notice teachers starting the cleanup process around noon so any trash or left overs you could help with disposing would be great.

Food Ordering

You are certainly welcome to bring your own lunch but we will have also My Hot Lunchbox ordering for Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. If you or your family are interested in ordering please go to the following link to order. Order Here

Your order will be available outside at the tables closest to the water fountains.

Daily Schedule

Homework

Reminder: I check homework for EFFORT, not COMPLETION. You decide how much gets done at home!

BENEFITS of Homework:

  • Extra practice for students who may need it
  • Communication with parents about what we are doing in class
  • Creates good study habits
  • Gives students the opportunity to ‘accomplished’ when they are finished and/or they understand
  • Creates opportunities for parents and/or older siblings to spend time with their 3rd grader

***Homework is NOT meant to be a frustration!

My purpose with homework is for the kids to get the practice so they understand the concepts. If the math packet is easy for them, for example, there is no need for them to complete it at home, although they probably will have finished it at school! THE POINT: I know you are all busy! I am typically flexible with due dates so if you have sports or ??? one night, feel free to wait until the next night to do it.  When they return the homework to me, I acknowledge the time and effort they put into it. If this inspires your child to get the practice at home, wonderful! If not, no added stress!!

Language Arts

We are on Unit 2 Week 5 in our Wonders curriculum. The essential question is How do people figure things out?”  This week has been fun because we are reading poetry! We continued identifying how authors use “Figurative Language” to add details and interest to their writing AND we began writing our own poems!
