WINTER MAP TESTING: Reading DONE/Math Next Week
12/10 Finding Ms. Laramie
Monthly, I will be announcing a different “get together” for all San Tan Charter School families so we can spend some time together as a community. These events are not mandatory but they are a great opportunity to meet together and get to know each other!
December’s “Find Mrs. Laramie” will be a special holiday edition centering on a yearly event that happens right in our very own neighborhood. Bundle up because we will be parking in the school parking lot and walking “Christmas on Comstock” light display show!
Meet me at 6:30 on Saturday December 10th to collect together outside of the school to prepare to walk the Christmas on Comstock light display.
I hope to see you there!
Do you have an idea of an activity you would like to do to create a strong community? I would love to hear from you! I am looking for ideas of activities we could do together. Meeting at the zoo? At a park? Farmer markets? Where would you like to see STCS community members get together?

Annual Busy Bee Class Gift Exchange: Super Fun!!
The idea is to give, be grateful, and be appreciated while filling our classroom with more fun!
What you do is wrap a new or used game, book, puzzle, (any item, really!) and bring it into the classroom by December 13th. On one of the 1/2 days (I’m not sure which, yet), we will play an exchange game so that each child will open someone else’s gift. It is so fun AND the entire class thanks the gift-giver, which is always so sweet!
Finally, the gifts stay in our classroom until the end of the year. Then, your child can choose to take the gift home again. If you have any questions, please let me know! My experience has been that the room is filled with excitement at what each child brings in…and the FUN is enjoyed for months after!!

A Glimpse into our Class
Daily Schedule
This is subject to change, of course!
Homework
Reminder: I check homework for EFFORT, not COMPLETION. You decide how much gets done at home!
BENEFITS of Homework:
- Extra practice for students who may need it
- Communication with parents about what we are doing in class
- Creates good study habits
- Gives students the opportunity to ‘accomplished’ when they are finished and/or they understand
- Creates opportunities for parents and/or older siblings to spend time with their 3rd grader
***Homework is NOT meant to be a frustration!
My purpose with homework is for the kids to get the practice so they understand the concepts. If the math packet is easy for them, for example, there is no need for them to complete it at home, although they probably will have finished it at school! THE POINT: I know you are all busy! I am typically flexible with due dates so if you have sports or ??? one night, feel free to wait until the next night to do it. When they return the homework to me, I acknowledge the time and effort they put into it. If this inspires your child to get the practice at home, wonderful! If not, no added stress!!
Social-Emotional Learning: Finding JOY!!
There is so much to be joyful about!! We just have to notice it!!
Read Aloud:
Mr. Popper’s Penguins By Florence and Richard Atwater
This is a great read-aloud! It’s fiction but contains several facts about penguins.
Language Arts
We are on Unit 2 Week 5 in our Wonders curriculum. The essential question is How do people figure things out?” This week has been fun because we are reading poetry! We continued identifying how authors use “Figurative Language” to add details and interest to their writing AND we began writing our own poems!

We enjoy our Guided Reading Groups each week. THANK YOU to our parents who led the groups Tue/Wed/Thu 11:40-12:15. We LOVE having you in class!! If you would like to join us, here is the link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4DAFAE2CA3F9C70-guided

Today is Giving Tuesday. GivingTuesday, which is often stylized as #GivingTuesday, is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It is touted as a “global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world”. GivingTuesday began as a simple idea in 2012 a day that encourages people to do good.
One of the organizations that help support teachers on #GivingTuesday is DonorsChoose. This program helps teachers fund their individual classrooms with projects that they create. What I love most about the program is that it helps teachers request things that are specific to the students that they are helping this year. From playground balls to flexible seating to classroom rugs, teachers can request almost everything under the sun.
This year, while you are making your #givingtuesday charitable donations, please consider donating towards making a teacher’s dream a reality. Thank you so much in advance!
