Coming Up… MAP Testing begins next week

Please make sure your kids get enough sleep and a good breakfast! I do not know our testing days yet.

This Week’s Focus

Procedures: “Feel free to…as long as it does not cause a problem for anyone in the universe!”  This is the umbrella, so-to-speak, of all our procedures. This week we focused on Walking out of Romm 206, Collaborative Conversations (Turn and Talk), Bathroom and Water (What/When/How/Where/Who), All Together Now (call outs), Classroom Jobs, Lunchtime…

Ask your 3rd graders about some of these…it may become a fun conversation!

Bees

The kids are so knowledgeable about bees! We made a chart of what we know about bees and then we made another chart that listed ways that humans could learn from bees: pictures attached. The kids are clever!!

The Ideals: The Ideal Teacher and The Ideal Student…WOW!! Amazing answers!! Again, see pics!

3rd Grade Angels

This book is so fun!! We are about 1/2 way through it and the kids seem to really enjoy it! Comprehension pages are coming home today! Note that we did not answer all the questions in class…feel free to continue the discussion at home!

We hope to finish it next week.

Math Topic 1: Understand Multiplication and Division of Whole Numbers

We barely got into this topic because we did so many fun review activities! Ask your kids about “Unlock the School Year Challenge” (packet sent home today), Secret Message, and Jeopardy!

From the Principal (Emailed Tuesday)

Dear San Tan Families,

What a fiasco drive lane was today!!! I want to start by sincerely apologizing. We really appreciate your patience and kindness today. You guys were so wonderful and we are working to do better. I have some requests to help tomorrow go smoother. Your time is genuinely precious to me so I am so appreciative of your partnership.

** If you are walking up, please make sure to check in your number with Ms. Richardson rather than the front office so we can help those who might be struggling inside. Additionally, if you are walking up please make sure to stand by your student’s numbered area rather than the exit. The number spans are earmarked and notated on the wall behind the benches **

Tips for Success

  • Car Tags need to be placed and hung on your rearview mirror.

  • Please reinforce with your students to walk out immediately and go take their seat on the correct numbered bench, siblings should not go and pick up their other siblings or friends.

  • Students will be dismissed to families with a card- if it’s not present you will be asked to park and walk in for identification before students are released.

  • Please be prepared to only turn right onto Recker Road following dismissal. Gilbert PD has requested that we cone off the left turn area.

  • Please be mindful of the cross-walk area and follow the indicated system.

I have also attached our aftercare sign-up. Please send this to Ms. Icke (micke@santancs.com) as soon as possible.

If you are NOT receiving my emails, my best recommendation is to add me (slaramie@santancs.com) as a contact. This will ensure that my emails are not identified as “spam” in your inbox.

Recker Academic Success Kit (RASK)

We are asking families for $30 per child to purchase our “Success Kit”. In the success kit, will be the following items.

  • Agendas- This is a notebook in which students will be details elements of their day, spelling words etc. School Agendas have long been the go-to method of teaching students responsibility and ownership of their learning. We have determined that, for the agendas to become an effective time and task management tool for the classroom, every student will need one.

  • School Communication Folder- Families are a powerful influence on children’s academic development. When family members are involved in student work, students’ self-esteem, interest, and language skills improve. To keep families up to speed, it’s crucial to establish a consistent method of communication between home and school. A weekly folder is a perfect method on ensuring active communication because it becomes part of the routine, and parents know to look for it each week.

  • Data Tracking Kit- Teachers at San Tan use formative and summative data to inform their instruction. Looking at the data helps the teachers understand the individual needs of each student and how to meet those needs. Typically, this data is only looked at by the teachers. However, research has shown that when students themselves identify, reflect, and use their data in their learning, they become active participants in their academic growth. Through our Data Tracking Kit, teachers will be training students how to graph, analyze, and set goals for their learning.

  • School T-shirt- We wear our school t-shirts on Friday to signify our Roadrunner Pride!
