Busy Bees Tees
Most parents verbally said “YES” to our Busy Bees Tees! Please let me know ASAP if you do not want to move forward on this.
These silly things are not lasting! A few have ripped, several have been cleverly cut with scissors!
I have some funds left from my Donor’s Choose project so I am going to put together another one to include a pencil box for each child.
Coming Home Friday
Phonics Packet: Ending blends and a continuation with beginning blends
Take a look to see what your kids are working on:
Nouns: possessive nouns
Verbs: adding -ing
Contractions: he is/he’s, for example
Spelling Tests taken today were not sent home because I still need to grade them!
In class, we say, “We all make mistakes because we are trying!” If your child gets words wrong, please know that we focus on the effort! One of our goals is to learn the process of taking a spelling test and all of the kids are doing great!
Math Topic 5: Work with Addition and Subtraction Equations
I think most of our mathematicians either “get it” or are “on the cusp of getting it”! The brainwork that this math requires often trips me up, too!!
Topic 5: Finding the Unknow Numbers/True or False Equations/Make Equations True
Take a look at the packets sent home for more information…Email me if you need clarification!
Mrs. Merkuri is volunteering on Mondays to work with a group of first grade mathematicians on Noetic Math. This is a math contest twice a year for grades 2-8. The kids will take a written test on November 17th in my classroom. They will be taking the 2nd grade test but I know some of them will do very well! What a great opportunity for math enrichment, practice, and fun!
XtraMath at Home!
Try it! If they earn a certificate, let me know and I will set them up for the next group of math problems.
We will celebrate in class!!
Literacy Pro at Home!
Log in to Literacy Pro! Let me know how the kids like it…my own children really enjoy it!
This is our new online reading program that you paid for when you purchased the RASK kit. It is super cool! My own kids just started using it. The first step is to take an assessment and then the program will suggest books for your child. Please take time to login and check it out. I would love to have them reading even more over the break!
At LiteracyPro, kids can “access over 2,500 authentic, high-quality ebooks, some in Spanish, as well as connections to thousands of print books in classroom libraries. Students are given a personalized reading experience with choice, while educators are provided with actionable data about reading levels, activity, comprehension, and progress.”
Instructions: Go to https://digital.scholastic.com/#/signin
Choose “Sign in with Google Classroom”
Choose your child’s account: email@example.com
It will guide you through the rest! Please let me know how it goes! My own kids love it so far!
*To My Parents of Above Grade Level Learners:
These pages may not seem challenging enough for your kids! Rest assured, in class, we do a lot of enrichment activities and extensions! For example, the book at the end of the /i/ packet has very few words for beginning first grade level readers. One extension idea would be to add more detail to the sentences, like descriptive words or an addition at the end of the sentence.
For math, our discussions are deep and the activities and games that we play can be more challenging!

Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Dessert Donation
Occurring the day before Thanksgiving, Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is a tradition at San Tan Charter! Dr. and Mrs. Sippel began this tradition in the first Montessori Preschool class with bean soup. The tradition continues for families by bringing their own lunch and eating it picnic style outside as a community and brining desserts to share. The kids love this because this is the one-day sweets are allowed on campus! Please help us! Peruse our list and bring your favorite treat.
A few reminders: No NUTS, desserts must be baked, defrosted and ready at morning drive lane. There will be volunteers available to collect your dessert at drive lane and walk it over to the cafeteria to be cut.
